North Carolina - 10/03. Terminix should be terminated!! I recently went into contract on a home in North Carolina; and one of the many “benefits” I would receive under my purchase is that the home is under a “Terminix” bond. After receiving my recent pest inspection report from a local, independent pest inspection agency, I found out termite activity is present. Should I be surprised??!! Doesn’t appear to be excessive, though they say it’s only near the rear deck; but it’s there, ya know what I mean? How many news stories do you have to hear about before realizing this company is obviously bogus, paying top dollar to keep their name out of the papers!! Obviously, someone’s a chargin’ but no works a happenin’...
Florida - 10/03. We have recently purchased a home in Jacksonville, FL. The previous owners had Terminix service since 2000. While doing some interior painting and wallpaper work, I noticed some abnormal drywall. I proceeded to take a small section of the drywall down, which revealed termite damage in the wall cavity. I have not renewed my Terminix service, which expires in October. I did contact a lawyer, but it was not his specialty.
Pennsylvania - 10/03. After my mother’s death in July 2003, we put her house in Drexel Hill, PA, up for sale. We were shocked to find that she had thousands of dollars of damage, because she had a $150 yearly contract with Terminix for 50 years. There were supposedly yearly inspections. After contacting Terminix, it was determined they would cover SOME of the cost but we would be responsible for about $3,000. Then another company checked the situation and said that there was still live activity, even in areas that Terminix supposedly treated. The end result is an additional $15,000. So my siblings and I lose $18,000 total. You would think that since our mother trusted and paid Terminix for 50 years, they would or should absorb the cost of their neglect. Terminix is a rip-off company.
? - 10/03. Oct. 2001, I signed a two-year contract for bait stations, with monthly inspections, from Terminix, later to find out if there is no activity for three months, they don’t check for the next three months. I have documented and closely monitored the inspectors as they checked only one trap or none at all, leaving an inspection sheet stating no activity found. I chased down the inspector twice and inspected with him only to find activity, then that inspector told me he had no bait and it would be about a week. Termites were free to gather at my house. I received no bait for months, and the falsified inspection sheets that I did receive said no activity. There were months where no one ever came out even after requesting the bait stations be checked. I tried contacting the corporate office and local office about forty times. They have some of my complaints on file at corporate level because they read them to me. No one at corporate level has ever called me back or replied to emails. Only one time, Rob, from Mt. Laurel office which has seen many manager changes, has returned my call but only acted with only a small resolution. I now have bait in five of the stations. I have more termite activity now than I had for the past two years. Almost $1,500 was invested. The time, effort, and frustration on my part is great. I, as many people, have a full plate to deal with. I was lied to and cheated, and not even one person at the corporate level would respond to my calls for help. I just wanted the service, protection, and customer service I paid for up front. The two-year contract is due to expire Oct. 03. My neighbor two doors away is having the same problem.
Delaware - 9/03. I wish I had found your web site a year ago. I would have saved $575. I can’t believe businesses like this one are allowed to operate. Thanks for putting this site together. I hope people can get to it before trying to use Terminix services. Not only my problems were not solved, but even after the one-year contract, they continue to perform monthly at $75 without letting me know that I was being charged. I talked to their manager, Jeff Cappalo, and they explained they had the right to come back and continue their charges without prior notification because it was stated in their contract. I believe this is unfair to make us pay for a service we did not request. We thought we were done after we paid $500 in full, which did not solve our pest problems. Please if you see this: Don’t use Terminix, Wilmington, Delaware. There is no guarantee your pest problems will go away, and they try to cheat you out of your money.
Texas - 9/03. My law suit is pending in court as we speak. Terminix treated my house 1 1/2 prior to me buying it then did the wood destroying insect report on it when I bought it and said the house never had any termites.
South Carolina - 9/03. I have tried for two years to check or have in writing if there is termite damage to my home. Each year, I receive a bill. When I took out this service, I was told that a monthly inspection would be done. It was for the first year, but now it is quarterly. I had to ask about this. I called the local office to get a copy of my contract. My bill has been increased from $350 per year to $366 per year. It has been almost a week; I was told the contract would be sent right out. Have not received it. The due date is Oct. 1, 2003. I had an inspection but there was no confirmation of damage. Just typed a statement that this inspection was not an assurance of damage nor of no damage. I was told by the inspecting gentleman that if I gave him the check instead of mailing it to the company, he would get 6% of the amount. I do not blame him, but something is wrong. I have tried to be diplomatic but I need to know if I do or do not have damage, plus what am I paying for, and if there is damage will I get compensated or what? I was under the impression this was an insurance for any possible damage.
Virginia - 9/03. I agree completely with all of the other people who have filed complaints on your web site. Terminix is non-responsive, and their products for pest control simply do not work. Terminix is a complete waste of money.
Alabama - 9/03. I am “serviced” by the Terminix office in Gulf Shores. The service is awful. If you have live termite activity -- not just in the ground, where they quickly give you a song and dance about nothing they can do -- I mean live termite activity where, in my case, the live termites are eating away my carport, Terminix does not care. They will not return my calls. It’s been two weeks since they sent a little man to look at it, who promised to report and get a carpenter out... nothing. And the termites are still working away. This company is awful... and I just renewed and had the Sentricon system put in! Time to get a lawyer.
New Jersey - 8/03. I have Terminix and recently found a swarm of termites in my house. Three months have gone by and no one has come out to treat the area. I have been a customer for 10 years now.
Hawaii - 8/03. On August 11, 2003, we had our home fumigated by Terminix. It has been a nightmare. Their service is horrendous. First of all, they showed up late. They also removed the locks and signs on the door approximately an hour and a half later than was scheduled. This caused us to lose another day of work. Today (8/16/03), after a heavy rainfall, we noticed our deck was leaking. Upon further inspection, we found that the Terminix crew had damaged our roof. In addition, when checking the attic area, we discovered numerous dents in our roof. We then contacted the office and spoke to the inspector who apologized and said he would have the branch manager contact us on Monday.
Florida - 7/03. I recently called Terminix to inquire why we were not receiving monthly inspections. The service representative informed me that since we had not made payment, our service contract had been canceled. I obtained a copy of the canceled check and sent it to Terminix. They informed me they made a mistake and that the inspections are quarterly. Terminix wasted hours of my time pursuing this. The “No Hassle” portion of Terminix’s logo is definitely false advertisement!
Ohio - 7/03. I just wish I had known three years ago what I know now. If I had, I would NOT have signed up for Terminix. Not showing up for scheduled appointments, but showing up on their own several days later and billing me for services performed on the outside of the home because we weren’t here. Me, going to home improvement stores to spend MORE money to treat the ants myself because they can’t be here when I need them! I’m sorry to inconvenience the service tech and his management when I call the office to complain, but carpenter ants in my pantry, in my kids’ bedrooms, walking across my counter, etc. have been an even LARGER INCONVENIENCE to me. Like I told the manager when I called to complain yet again... if these pests were invading YOUR home, I’m sure you wouldn’t sit around until a convenient time pops up for your tech to show up!
Florida - 7/03. Terminix billed me for services not delivered and then turned it over to a collection department. Billed for bimonthly pest control that I was not home to have done. Called them and still turned me over to a collection agency after I thought the bill had been corrected.
? - 7/03. I have never used Terminex, but that did not stop them from turning me over to creditors to try and collect money I never owed them. I refuse to take phone calls from any company associated with ServiceMaster.
California - 6/03. We wish this site was available 20 some odd years ago. That was the time my father signed up for pest and termite control with Terminix. Since then, we have given them over $7,000 to have the home free of pests and termites. My father passed away several years ago, and we continued to pay for the services each month. We put the home up for sale, had Terminix do the mandatory pest inspection, and it came by that the house was infested with termites!!! Just what did we pay over $7,000 for???
New York - 6/03. We hired Terminix and after repeated phone calls have received no follow up service.
Virginia - 6/03. Lies and unkept promises seem to be the rule rather than the exception when it comes to this company. I wish I had never heard of them.
Arizona - 6/03. In mid-April 2003, I signed a contract for the installation of a SentriCon system and paid Terminix $1700. On April 14, I exercised my option to cancel the contract. No work was completed. The Cancellation Agreement clearly states that my $1700 was to be refunded within ten business days. Again, that was ten business days... After about three weeks (without a refund), I called Terminix. They said the accountant had not received a copy of the cancellation notice. I was also told I would receive my refund in “three weeks.” After another three weeks (without a refund), I again called Terminix. I was assured the appropriate Terminix personnel would call me later that day. After another two business days (without a refund or return phone call), I again called Terminix. I was told they were preparing to send out the check via “overnight mail.” After another week without a refund, I again called Terminix. Now I was told refund checks arrive in the office and are mailed out on Thursdays. I was assured my check would arrive on Friday or Saturday. The check did not arrive on Friday, Saturday, or today, Monday. I again called Terminix and was assured the appropriate Terminix personnel would call me later today. Not surprisingly, there has been no return phone call yet. As it is now 8:30 p.m., I am no longer expecting a call from Terminix today.
Missouri - 6/03. On Feb. 25, 2002, my upstairs carpet was sprayed for bugs. The chemical used was Conquer EC Insecticide. My carpet was damaged all around the edges of the rooms where it was sprayed. It took countless calls and complaints to get Terminix to come out and look at the damage. Mike Johnson finally came out and looked at the carpet. He claimed their chemicals do not stain carpet; but when I showed him the receipt for the month of February, he acknowledged that Conquer does INDEED stain carpet and should never have been used. He asked me to get an estimate to replace the carpet and fax it to him, which I did. I have not heard a word since and all calls to them are not returned. I have received calls from them for service to my home which I have refused until this issue is resolved. They promised then to get back to me...taking all the information AGAIN and then not getting back to me. The damage to my carpet has been assessed at $3,836.66.
Massachusetts - 5/03. When I purchased my home in 1999, along with this I purchased the warranty for termite control. Over the past three years, I have had my home inspected 1-2 times a year (to make sure the termites have not returned). I had my annual inspection on Saturday, to find out I am infested with termites. I have all the documentation which Terminix stated “I am free and clear of any infestation, no live activity.” I have spoken with Terminix and told them they are liable for all the damage due to the neglect of the home inspectors. Unfortunately, they have refused to pay any damages. I have started my search for legal counsel and another inspection along with proposals from home building contractors. I spoke to one contractor who thinks my home may possibly have to be jacked up due to the extensive damage.
New Jersey - 5/03. Complaint:
Contract is for monthly checks. They changed it to quarterly.
They have not checked our stations in over six months.
Do not return phone calls.
Very unhappy with the service. I asked for a refund but have gotten no response.
Delaware - 5/03. I am also having problems with Terminix. Not at nearly the same level as others but your web site was a real eye opener.
California - 5/03. I was looking for Terminix’s web site to get the name/address to write to the CEO to complain. Lo and behold, I must be in a very long line.
Pennsylvania - 5/03. We signed with Terminix in April 2002. We are sure we do have a termite problem; but since joining Terminix, it has been one hassle after another. Phone calls have gone unanswered and appointments canceled or they just don’t show up at all. We now have been told they will refund our money and leave the Sentricon system in place for the company of our choice to take over. We will see if this does occur. I believe the treatments they did actually come to do were nothing more than a stall tactic. I don’t believe anything was ever put into the drilled holes. We have new damage to our walls and have seen new white termites in sections of the home. I hope this will help someone else before they decide to enter into contract with this company!
