Customer Complaints

Granville County, North Carolina - 7/07. I just want to say that I was victorious over Terminix II in North Carolina.  Terminix had not responded to my complaints about their installation of termite bait traps and did not show on time for pest control services. After dealing with the local office and contacting the corporate office, I received very little resolve to the issues.  After I stopped paying for several months, their story changed to "you pay us what you owe and we will fix the problems." After refusing to pay for the services through their payment plan, they took me to court. After contacting an attorney with my complaints and going to small claims court, my case was heard and dismissed with prejudice in my favor and my legal fees to be paid by Terminix. How? The arbitration loop hole. The contract states that BOTH  parties agree to arbitration to resolve disputes.  When Terminix filed in court to sue me for the payments, they violated their own arbitration clause in the contract, making the contract null and void. He then awarded me my legal fees to be paid by Terminix, because the case should never have gone to court, they were bound to arbitration only.

? - 6/07. My complaint is that they have not serviced our home.  Our contract was for a year and then a renewal was paid as well. They have not been here. I called in April, and they said it was too cold to service. They said they would be out next month.  Again they did not show up. I called and they said they had been there. I did not receive a notice they were here like they were supposed to leave. I have a mail box that goes into the house, so it could not have blown away. That was their excuse. This company is full of crap.  They steal from their clients.  We need to stop this kind of service and this company.

? - 6/07. Terminix was hired to spray for pests in my  home.  While there, the technician short circuited the kitchen wiring.  Terminex sent a handyman to fix the problem, not a certified  electrician.  The handyman used foul language in my home, replaced outlet covers with the wrong color outlets, and even used my tools as he had  none. This is not the quality of service I expected, and I would never do business with them again. This company is  terrible.

Danville, Kentucky - 6/07. We were contacted by phone in June 2007 via a computerized voice recording informing us our service will expire at the end of June.   Knowing this was incorrect, I proceeded to call the 1-800-TERMINIX phone number. The person that answered the phone told me there was nothing she could do for me.  She instructed me to call back and speak with the manager. Believing that Terminix was a first-class, top-notch corporation, I was surprised that I was being sluffed off so casually. I told her that I wish to speak to anyone else with authority there or the accounting department.  With that, I was quickly told there is no one else; and when I became upset, I was told again to call back  later.  With that said, she promptly just hung up on me.  Being angry, I called back.  Again I was hung up on promptly. I called a third time and remained determined but calm and polite.  Again I was hung up on.  Finally after calling a fourth time, I was told there is a cell number to call and to wait a minute and she will get it for me.  Waiting a minute, finally a man answered and spoke to me inquiring curtly what did I want? I went through the whole explanation again, calmly about the fact we paid, I gave him the date, check number, and stated the check was cashed by their company and cleared. He said so?  I said what do you mean, “So?” I said that we were being told we were being terminated at the end of the month and we paid for the remainder of the year! He finally said they will check in to it all and have the sales manager call me back. With that, I said fine.  Got on the internet and discovered they are being sued by many people including the government.  The point I am trying to make here is they are NOT what they claim to be.  They are not a reputable company. I now feel we were fleeced.  They are just a company out to take your money and no more than that.  We paid out more than three thousand dollars for a service which amounted to a rip-off. I am complaining so that others will beware. They would be better off served to deal with a reputable company.  BUYER BEWARE. Things are not necessarily what they seem to be.

Ewing, New Jersey - 5/07. Too bad I didn't read this before I called Terminix. One visit for $199 and never showed again. Oh, one pest control agent showed up when it was raining, said he couldn't do anything.  Three appointments later still no show. I’m done.

Quincy, Illinois - 5/07. Never again will I do business with a company like Terminix. The local branch office has the most rude employees you could ever possibly imagine, starting from the techs, the secretary, and right on up to the branch manager who is a fat slob that hides from customers that can’t get results over the phone so they stop in to speak to him directly. I sat in my car and watched him enter the branch; but when I went in, the secretary told me he wasn’t in and wouldn’t be back for a week.  This same thing has happened repeatedly, although one time she whispered to me that he was hiding from me and that I should cancel my contract cause the manager had told my technician to use water and glue boards at my house and nothing else.  If my technician showed up at all for scheduled appointments, it was one to two hours late; and he never knocked cobwebs down, just walked around the house spraying stuff every 10 or 12 feet and laid a couple of glue boards around. I even saw him spraying the stuff on my cat once, which was one of my complaints that never got listened to.  I have taken the advice of the secretary and cancelled my contract and went with a very reliable and highly praised local pest control firm.

Washington DC - 5/07.   I would like to file a complaint against Terminix, 855 Brightseat Road, Landover, MD.  On June 1, 2006, I contracted with Terminix to rid my home of termites.  At that time there was very minimal damage, only signs that I did indeed have termites.  I paid them in full and they treated the rear and front of my home explaining that that single treatment would take care of the problem. Three months later, I called them again.  I scheduled an appointment since the termites were eating the entire rear of my home.  I  took off work three different days with appointments where no one showed up.  On the fourth appointment they did show up.  Their employee said  that obviously the treatment did not work however he could not give it another  treatment because it was too soon.  Within the next month, I had to have the entire rear of the home taken down and replaced.  I now have termites again and contacted Terminix for a treatment.  My appointment was for today between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.  Of course, no one showed up at my home.  I called them and was told that the appointment was never confirmed with the  service department so I would have to reschedule.  Once again, I missed a  day’s work with no service.  I was directed to another number and told that my appointment was for yesterday and not today.  I told the lady on the phone that if it was indeed yesterday, which it was not, then they would have left a notice at my door stating that they were there.  There was no note.  I called another number and was told that the appointment was indeed today but I would have to wait for the service department to call me to explain why they did not come and when they could come in the future.  I then called the local branch manager, Jeffery Coe, but he was not available so I left a message for him to call me back.  I then called the local service department for existing customers, and no one answered the phone. I then called the number for new customers who want an estimate, and they could not give me any information on how to get in touch with Mr. Coe.  I recently paid my annual contract fee of $185.06 to Terminix on April 24.  They cashed the check of course so I guess they have no need to live up to their contract.  I am at my wit’s end.  I cannot keep taking off work for the no-show Terminix people, and I can't wait for the termites to eat my house all over  again.

Miami Beach, Florida - 5/07. Not only is Terminix not coming to the property to reassess their work guaranteed from last year but Maxx Properties managing an apartment building I have lived in for the past 6 years.  I am now living in a one-bedroom because my 3 and 4 year old daughters are unable to sleep in their room. Formosa termites have eaten their way through a one bedroom apartment that is adjacent to my children’s room and have come out in our wall.  Can someone please help me?

? - 4/07. I'm in the process of finding out my legal rights, if any.  I'm under a $250.000 termite bond.  The company will not reveal the source of bond or who the underwriter is of such a bond.  I've been bonded since 1980. Terminex has threatened me; and the inspectors of my property took evidence back, and they were never seen again.

Stafford, Virginia - 4/07. Never again will I sign on with Terminex.  Three years of unkept appointments, unanswered calls, no followup on pest concerns, and very poor service. We are military and rest assured we will tell all to avoid this company.
