OF course, if you are first there, you don't get the benefits of Squid, it still takes the same time to get that page, but hey, next time you go there, it will be there waiting for you!  At this writing, SQUID is returning about 42% of the requests from its own database, which means at least 42% of the sites you are visiting are already here, waiting on you!

Follow these next few screens to enable the SQUID server on your computers, you will not be disappointed.

Microsoft Internet Explorer V4.x in Windows 98 (Win95 is very similar)

Netscape Navigator and Communicator 4.x below

First for Internet Explorer, do the following:
1.  Open the Internet Options Screen, either from "Control Panels" or inside of Internet Explorer, from "View-Internet Options", you will get a screen like the one below.
2.  Open the "Automatic Configuration" screen (its shown on the bottom of the next graphic) and enter the information:  http://www.syix.com/proxy.pac as shown on the graphic.  Hit the "Refresh" button, it will provide you with no feedback, but then just hit OK after its comes back.  Hit OK again, and then SHUTDOWN the Internet Explorer.  Reopen it, and if all is well, you will NOT get any error messages.

Easy?  By the way, ignore the "Connection" block, it should be left as it is now, don't change it to look like mine, it will not work for you.

Netscape Navigator 4.0x

Open Netscape and Find "EDIT", then "Preferences".  You will get a sceen like the one below, first open up the "Advanced" Category, and click on "Proxies".  Click on the "Automatic..." button, and fill in the location as shown.  Click "Reload" and Netscape will return any errors, if things are Okay, then hit "OK" and you are all done!
