The Yuba-Sutter Scottish Cultural Society, Inc. first brought Highland Games to the Marysville-Yuba City Community in 1988. It has since evolved from a small "Gathering" held in Marysville's Riverfront Park, to today's full scale Games and Celtic Festival, complete with athletics, Clan Societies, Pipers, pageantry, and living history. The Festival is held each year during the last weekend of September. It is an opportunity to check out Celtic heritage, eat ethnic food, shop from Irish, Scot and Welsh vendors, and to be entertained by music, dance and remarkable athletic achievement.
The Society's stated purpose is to bring together people of Scottish descent; to practice and preserve Scottish traditions; to educate the public about Scottish traditions and heritage; to promote goodwill among people of Scottish heritage and the American public; and to perform local charitable works.
The Yuba-Sutter Scottish Cultural Society, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, incorporated in the State of California.
Proceeds derived from Society events are distributed through local charities and scholarships.
The Society meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 800 D Street, in Marysville.
