Agencies and services such as your local Community College, Senior Center, Recreation Department, Adult Education division of your school district, and nearby universities in Sacramento and Chico provide opportunities for education at reduced cost. Services Provided:

Lends books, recordings, sound reproducers, other reading materials and equipment including braille books, large print and talking books on records and cassettes. Pillow phones loaned to readers confined to bed. Special booster for use with headphones by hearing impaired persons.

Eligibility Requirements:

Blind persons whose vision is 20/200 or less in better eye with correcting lenses, or visual field no greater than 20%. Others whose visual impairment prevents reading of standard printed material. Persons whose physical limitations prevent use of standard printed material. Persons with a reading disability resulting from organic dysfunction which prevents them from reading in a normal way. All applicants must be authorized by competent authority, who may be doctors, optometrists, nurses, therapists, social workers, and rehabilitation teachers among others.

Elderhostel

Education retreats and conferences that are held periodically all over the U.S. Normally 1-2 weeks in length. See the catalog available at your public library. Also Yuba College has periodicals regarding Elderhostel..

Services Provided:

Recreational activities of all kinds - monthly trips, exercise classes, classes in quilting, art, decorating, writing. Cards. Monthly dances, monthly movies.

Blood pressure checks first and third Wednesdays. Programs are constantly being developed. Make your needs and interests known.

Eligibility Requirements: Age 50 and over. Fees: Some classes have small fees
