Services Provided:

For family members of brain-impaired adults. Supplies caregivers with information, referral services, family support groups, training, and conferences and workshops. Types of brain-impairments served by this organization are Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, Huntington's, stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors or other permanent damage. Provides contractual services for legal and financial advice, family counseling, respite care.

Eligibility Requirements:

Caregivers of patients with brain impairment which occurred during adulthood (age 18 and older) and who are not eligible for assistance from other publicly supported programs or similar benefits.

Family members or concerned professionals are eligible for information and referral, family support groups, caregiver training and conferences. Other services are available to caregivers of those who experience brain impairment after age 18, and not receiving other public support. If you think you may qualify call for complete information.

Caregivers are eligible for respite service, legal consultation and counseling services. See page 35 for additional information.

The One Shoe Crew

Services Provided:

Matches up people with their shoe opposites so they can share the shoes and the cost of the shoes. About half of the clients wear two shoes of different sizes, and the other half need only one shoe. Offers many single, unused shoes, free of charge, except for $5 postage and handling. Has over 50,000 new single shoes to choose from 2,500 pairs of mismates - same shoe, two different sizes. Client indicates general style of shoe he is interested in, and will receive a picture of what is on hand in their size and width. Be sure to include both size and width when you send in your registration papers.

Fees or Charges:

Registration fee, $3. Donation requested, $5.00 per shoe or boot, which may be waived for clients with financial difficulties. All clients must prepay the postage, of $2.50 per shoe item. Please bring this service to the attention of others -- anyone who needs only one shoe or has special foot problems would benefit from knowing about One Shoe Crew. Also gives advice on adaptive clothing and shoe information.

Has low-vision clinic for people whose vision has become a serious disability. Services include training for mobility as well as making use of residual sight. Counseling services available for the visually impaired and their families. Products store has 500 items to make life easier and more enjoyable for blind and visually impaired. Daily living skills instruction.

Eligibility Requirements: None. Funded by the Society forthe Blind and United Way.

Fees or Charges: Sliding fee scale available. No person denied services due to inability to pay.
