Housing
To receive updated listings of licensed board and care
homes, call the State Department of Social Services in
Chico. Call (916) 895-5033.
Choosing a nursing home is one of the most important
decisions a person makes. Nursing homes are also known as
Residential Care Homes. The institution must adhere to
strict standards for licensing, though a licensed nurse is
not required. In selecting a facility, it is in a person's
best interest to explore what is desired by the family. This
can be a accomplished by asking questions and visiting care
facilities.
Information that can be of help in the decision-making
process, and in answering the myriad of questions that
arise, can be found in the public library.
The facilities on the following list are licensed by the
State of California as of April, 1997. Listings are updated
quarterly. When seeking a placement, call several care homes
to learn if each facility has a vacancy, then try to see as
many as are available to find the one that best meets your
family's needs.
ELDERCARE
Eldercare referral service operates in the Sacramento
area to find apropriate housing for Seniors. Jerry Schreck,
who heads the organization, accompanies seniors on visits to
homes that seem to be both the sort of facilities they need
within the price range they can afford, always seeking the
best available. All services are free to the Senior. Jerry
is paid by the home. Phone number for this service is
916/489-8779.
